Not having fun

I woke up this morning with pain in my thigh/hip when I move. I'm limping, can't put weight on it properly, and it seems to be getting worse. I'm not happy. I guess I injured it in my sleep or something.

In other news, I'm considering giving up blogging. I don't have much to say at the moment, and no-one's interested in hearing me go on about the dull stuff that happens in my life. I'm tired and irritable and not in the slightest bit entertaining.

Can I go to bed now?

Dolphins

To whet your appetite a little, here's Michael's short video of dolphins in the Moray Firth.

While you're waiting for Scotland photos....

....I thought I'd just update about Basil.

You may remember I posted a while back about Basil's foot, which had a thread wrapped round it that cut off the circulation and the end of the foot died and went all dry and black (i.e. dry gangrene).

It's taken a while, but finally the dead bit dropped off and he's grown new skin. He can walk around fine on the heel - essentially he's missing four toes and the toe pads, but the heel and the big toe are fine.

It's the best we could have hoped for really, so I'm very pleased with him. Once we sort the new pen out (it needs some wire on the base of it, to stop him digging for freedom), he can go outside again. He'll be happier out there.

In photo news, Michael's working on it.

Post-holiday

Okay, I got back on Thursday, but haven't posted pics yet because:

a) They need resizing and sorting out because there are thousands of them and I just haven't even started it yet

b) I can't be bothered.

Yeah, I'm in that sort of mood again. I'm tired, restless, can't sleep, don't want to wake up, don't want to do anything, and therefore bored.

So, just a few things then.

I've signed up to sing with the Midland Festival Chorus this year, for the first time. We're performing Dvorak's Stabat Mater at Worcester Cathedral on October 13th, so if you're anywhere near you should really come and see us! I'm excited because we have to learn the piece before the rehearsal, and be note-perfect and I've never had to do that before. I've also never heard the piece but I'm told it's wonderful.
I'm actually quite enthusiastic about getting started with it, but I have to wait for the score I ordered to arrive. Which sucks. I want to learn it now, dammit!

Healthwise.... the tests I've had done recently have interesting results.

Glycosylated haemoglobin/HbA1C (sort of long-term blood sugar): normal
Fasting blood glucose: normal
Cholesterol: low
Blood pressure: 130/100 (pretty high)
ECG: normal

It's slightly puzzling, especially the normal sugar tests. Nurse thinks maybe I'm just not responding well to insulin or intolerant to glucose rather than being properly diabetic, and I've got to have a glucose tolerance test to shed a bit more light on the situation. And my blood pressure really needs sorting out. I have medication, hopefully it will go down.

So yeah. And I really need to find something interesting to do before I die of boredom and/or obsessively read every book in the world. Maybe I need some friends.

I'm in Glasgow!

Just got here a few minutes ago. It's 23.25 and I'm knackered, but there's a computer in the room so I'm taking advantage of it and doing a short blog.

The bits of Scotland we've seen are lovely. We especially like Islay (we just left there today), unfortunately the contrast between an island with a population of 3,500 and a fairly big city is confusing my poor tired brain.

So far, seen quite a few birds, also red squirrels, dolphins and seals.

I'll check in again when we get home.

Holiday!

We're off to Scotland and the Lake District tomorrow, my first proper holiday for about 5 years.

So prepare for loads of pics when I get back!

Wish me good weather, and all the birds on my wish list, okay?
